Marie Raser, P.E., LSRP., Matrix New World Engineering., was a guest on ‘Wise Women @ Work’ podcast. During the interview, Ms. Raser discussed being a professional woman in a male-dominated industry. Raser specifically highlighted her experiences working in site remediation and engineering. Raser spoke of her previous work with other companies and how Matrix, a woman-owned company, has made her feel more supported and recognized in her field. Having worked at the organization for the past four years, Ms. Raser stated she feels more equal to her male colleagues than she had at any other company. Raser also discussed her previous work overseas and some of the challenges and discriminations she faced in her travels. “There were certain places where [the company I worked for previously] would not send women, for example, Saudi Arabia and Africa.” She also recalled an incident with a refinery in Japan where male personnel were disappointed to learn that they would be working with a woman. Raser emphasized the key to overcoming adversity is to be confident, resilient, and consistent. “Fight for your place at the table,” she advised. “Take on additional responsibilities when available. Sometimes it’s important to step out of your comfort zone and volunteer for a challenging project—or voice an unpopular opinion.” According to Jayne Warne, PE, President, “We are proud Marie spoke about the supportive culture we have at Matrix. We treat both our women and men colleagues equally and are very happy this philosophy works for our employees as well as our clientele.” To listen to the podcast, please visit https://bit.ly/2Sewgl9
