Redefining design excellence to solve the challenges of today. Prioritizing resilient and equitable infrastructure in our communities. Advancing solutions to shape the digital transformation of the AEC industry. As the new Metro New York lead for AECOM, these are Tom Scerbo’s areas of focus. They are also the common threads that have allowed Tom to advance in his career to lead a principal region of the world’s premier infrastructure consulting firm. Born and raised in the Bronx, Tom joined AECOM in 2014 as lead of the company’s Metro New York Buildings + Places business – eventually assuming the role for the entire Northeast – covering architecture and interiors, building engineering, and urban design and planning. An architect by training, Tom has brought a unique collaborative approach to AECOM, where teams under his leadership have delivered major transportation and buildings projects for federal, state, local, and private clients, including multiple critical facilities in support of the COVID-19 fight. In his new role, Tom has expanded his area of focus to include strategic growth and profitability for all of New York and New Jersey, including Transportation, Water & Wastewater, Program & Project Management, Buildings + Places, and Energy & Environment, focusing on opportunities that leverage AECOM’s integrated delivery platform. He oversees 1,900 employees throughout these business lines. Tom is a champion of pushing boundaries to achieve design excellence, prioritizing the role of resilient infrastructure to safeguard our communities, and employing advanced digital solutions to operationalize innovation. In addition to taking on the Metro New York Executive role, Tom will join the Board of Directors of New York Building Congress (NYBC) and will become a member of its Executive Committee. To mark NYBC’s centennial, Tom will also serve on its Centennial Commission. As a thought leader, Tom will prioritize knowledge-sharing to advance the industry, beginning with the panel he is moderating at Infraday Tri-State on April 29 around the topic of “A More Connected and Equitable New York City.” Prior to joining AECOM, Tom spent 14 years at HNTB in various leadership roles where he worked on the design and delivery of major high-profile infrastructure projects across the country. Tom holds a Bachelor of Architecture from New York Institute of Technology, School of Architecture & Design and a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation.
